We are concerned that NOR11 significantly reduces the separation between Acton Bridge and Weaverham. The distinctive identity of Acton Bridge could easily be lost. We are also concerned that NOR11 also covers an area along Sandy Lane which has been extensively flooded by the River Weaver in 2021 and again nearly flooded in 2023. NOR 12 covers an area which appears to be in the floodplain of the River Weaver. We are unable to say whether flooding occurred in this area in 2021 or 2023 but fear it may have done. Development in NOR11 should be reduced from that shown and constrained to be closer to weaverahm as it currently exists.

Each of the areas identified has disadvantages not least as they all use up land currently identified within the green belt. Areas AB04 and AB05 require the furthest walk to the station but are more contained within the the current village. Areas AB01,02, 03 extend the village perimeter into fresh countryside but are closer to the station and the pub. They will also add additional treaffic over the railway bridge.

To build on all the areas identified would provide an additional 1100 houses in Acton Bridge. This would radically change the nature of the village and swamp any services provided in the village. Acton Bridge Parish Council is wholly opposed to building this many new houses in Acton Bridge.

Question SS 67

Following the publication of the consultation, Acton Bridge Parish Council has undertaken a short informal survey to hear the views of residents. These views are incorporated into this response. To build on all the areas identified would provide an additional 1100 houses in Acton Bridge. This would radically change the nature of the village and swamp any services provided in the village. Acton Bridge Parish Council is wholly opposed to building this many houses in Acton Bridge. Most residents in Acton Bridge are opposed to buidling any additional houses. Some residents (a minority) do recognise that a modest amount of additional housing may be of advantage to the village especially if it broadens the range of housing available especially allowing older people to downsize or younger people who have grown up in the village to remain in the village through the provision of starter homes. The views expressed in the survey show there is some support for housing which was dedicated to starter homes or downsizing. The current members of the Acton Bridge Parish Council would support a realtively modest amount of new housing if it was focused primarily on these priorities. The survey showed there is almost zero support for building more than 50 houses and most would say less than 20 houses, if any at all. Residents are concerned that there are no services in the village and therefore any additional housing will add to car traffic through the village and more on-road parking adjacent to the station. The roads in Acton Bridge are not wide, especially Hill Top Road, Cliff Road and Cliff Lane. Additional housing will bring additional cars and likely additional traffic congestion within the village. The Railway Bridge at Acton Bridge Station is in a poor state and has had a width reduction for some time as the walls of the bridge do not provide sufficiently robust protection of the railway below. This currently causes problems as traffic can only pass in one diretion if a large vehicle tractor, delivery lorry, haulage vehicle is crossing the bridge. Building additional houses, and the subsequent increase in traffic, can only add to these problems.

We are concerned that the gap between Acton Bridge and Weaverham should not be reduced. This is especially true regarding the Sandy Lane / Warrington Road separation as well as along Station Road. In both of these areas the separation is currently small already.

This sounds acceptable in principle until somebody's property floods as happened in the Warrington Road / Acton Lane area of Acton Bridge in 2019, 2021 and 2023.

The most important thing is that the SuDS are effective. Natural solutions are preferrable BUT ONLY if they are effective. If they are not then alternative more effective SuDS are more desirable.

Yes. It should also include measures to slow down the flow of water so less flood water storage area is needed.
